Working with Sahana on Iya and the Map of Gentle Journeys was a deeply enriching experience.
As an editor, one of her greatest contributions is helping you discover more of what is already present within you. Her inputs did not change the heart of the manuscript; they helped me go deeper into it. Through our conversations and revisions, I found myself exploring ideas, emotions, and perspectives that were already there, but perhaps waiting to be expressed more fully. The result was a book that felt more authentic and more true to my voice.
What I appreciated most was the space she created throughout the process. There were timelines, but they never felt stressful. There was sincerity without the need to be overly serious or performative. As an author, I felt trusted, heard, and free to experiment.
Sahana brings a great deal of clarity to her work. She helps identify the roots of a story—what you are trying to say and why—and then allows the branches to grow in their own way. Her editorial suggestions consistently helped make the language more accessible and meaningful without taking away its essence.
The same approach extended to the design process. There was a beautiful balance between structure and creative exploration. The book’s visual journey felt carefully held, while still allowing room for playfulness and imagination.
Above all, what distinguishes Sahana for me is her values. Meaningful, values-driven work is becoming increasingly rare, and she embodies it with a quiet and courageous consistency. Working with her felt less like producing a book and more like nurturing something alive into the world.
